Sol IV Semiconductor announces the launch of its redesigned corporate website www.SoiIVSemi.com and www.ParagonLED.net. The new website reflects the company’s key commitment to developing leading LED solutions for OEMs and retrofit markets.
Integral features of the new site include enhanced navigation and clean modern layout, plus the new capability of sending RFQ requests directly to the manufacturer.

Sol IV Semiconductor completes a 35,000 hour ESRT (Extreme Stress Reliability Test) in DLC listed luminaires

Sol IV Semiconductor completed a 35,000 hour in-field ESRT durability and reliability test of it's Paragon™ LED platform. At the end of November 2010, 238 units of OEM LED luminaire sets consisting of Paragon™ SESIoN-i 80W industrial LED drivers driven at maximum power and 347 input Volts, connected with Paragon™ LE 44" LED modules driven at full current, were mounted in airtight polymeric IP67 certified luminaire enclosures to create a complete DLC-listed light fixture. All 238 ESRT luminaires were installed in a 24/7 commercial installation in a unique way that escalated LED module and LED driver temperatures right to the maximum allowed case temperatures of the LED 70C module and the LED driver 90C. Instead of attaching luminaires to the ceiling with mounting brackets that normally create a ventilation gap between the top of the luminaire and the ceiling, ESRT luminaire's housings were tightly nailed directly to the ceiling, with no gap. ESRT luminaires have been running so hot that some of the polymeric housings now show thermal deformation to the top.
Despite the Extreme Stress conditions, there were zero failures recorded after more than 48 months or 35,000 hours of non-stop operation. The results of this ESRT give OEM customers confidence that they are using quality components that best fit their needs, while assuring longevity and a maintenance-free life.
Sol IV Semiconductor passes UL TL certification of Paragon™ SESSIoN-i industrial strength LED drivers

Sol IV Semiconductor announces Type TL compliancy certification of LED driver by UL. The LED Driver Type TL Program by UL is an extension of the UL Recognized Component Program. The TL certification of Paragon™ SESSIoN-i industrial drivers will assist Sol IV Semiconductor in gaining greater market access for these highly acclaimed power supplies. The Type TL evaluation service also assists end-product LED luminaire manufacturers (OEMs) to improve their speed-to-market by making it easy to use Paragon™ SESSIoN-i TL compliant LED Drivers.
"Through the flexibility of the UL Recognized Component program, LED Drivers are often designed with varying constructions and are tested in a variety of ways. This flexibility creates a situation where, in most cases, no two LED drivers are interchangeable without the need for additional safety considerations. UL’s Type TL Program takes aim at this situation and creates a set of evaluation and testing guidelines to allow for more standardized LED Driver constructions and ratings. By requiring certain construction features, such as an enclosure and provisions for field wiring, we can reduce the amount of considerations required in the end product. Sol IV Semiconductor completes the final round of reliability and performance testing of it's Paragon™ LED light engines driven by Seoul Semiconductor LEDs

Sol IV Semiconductor recently completed the Reliability Assessment Program (RAP) for Paragon™ LE light engine testing with two hundred LED modules constantly running at maximum rated current and maximum allowed temperature maintained in an environmental chamber through a 12-month, 8,600 hours accelerated aging process. The tests met success criteria and demonstrated the effectiveness of GaN-on-silicon design enhancements to Paragon™ LE light engines.
Sol IV Semiconductor offers OEMs a complete suite of NVLAP accredited fully certified LED luminaire testing services with the addition of Energy Star and DLC application processes.

Traditionally, the semiconductor industry has supplied LEDs for lighting keypads and backlights, plus GaAs components for switching and power amplification. Meanwhile, the use of silicon has been restricted to signal processing and memory. This has recently changed. An important area where silicon and the III-Vs semiconductors are coming together to create better products is LED production. The main advantage is reduction of LED production costs. Consumer LED bulbs that now cost $40 could be cut to $5 within a few years. Sol IV Semiconductor announced the launch of sixty standardized LED light engines designed for indoor and outdoor applications. This broad variety offering in off-the-shelf LED light engines with linear lengths up to 47.25", opens up entirely new creative possibilities and production conveniences for luminaire manufacturers and designers. In a square, round or linear design, the Paragon™ LE modules are plug-and-play, and can be installed separately or as a combination of models. The easy to use peel-and-stick, fully approved, mounting method saves drilling holes and other manual labor, simplifying and reducing assembly costs. Sol IV Semiconductor teams up with LG to design the longest-lasting LED light engines in the industry

Following the extensive research and testing of hundreds of thousands LED packages from more than twenty LED producers from USA, Taiwan, Korea, the U.K. and Finland, Sol IV Semiconductor chose to standardize on the LG Innotek product. LG Innotek is a Korea-based vertically integrated LED manufacturer with newly announced extended capabilities in epitaxy and white phosphors through to packaged emitters and modules. As part of the LG Group, it supplies LED back-lighting units for LCD panels. The manufacturing facility in Paju, Korea performs all aspects of LED production, from epitaxial wafer growth to LED module production.
